Electricity price in SE4: southern Sweden, winter against summer

SE4 is the southernmost zone, covering Skåne, Blekinge and southern Småland, and usually the most expensive.

In SE4 the variable retail price for an electrically heated house was 95.1 öre/kWh before VAT in August 2026, according to Statistics Sweden, the highest of Sweden’s four bidding zones. The seasonal swing is widest here too: since 2023 the winter months December to February have averaged 105.4 öre/kWh and the summer months June to August 78.8 öre/kWh, before VAT. On Svenska kraftnät’s map the zone includes grid areas such as Malmö-Burlöv, Lund, Helsingborg, Halmstad, Växjö and Kalmar. With E.ON Energidistribution’s grid for a 20 A house, energy tax of 36.0 öre/kWh and VAT, the all-in price is 194.6 öre/kWh. For a heated house in SE4 that means a winter bill can be several times the summer one; the calculator shows the month for your consumption.

Winter and summer for a heated house in Skåne

Statistics Sweden, house with electric heating, SE4. Consumption figures are examples; grid and energy tax come on top.
PeriodVariable, before VATEnergy for one month, incl. VAT
Winter (Dec–Feb), average since 2023105.4 öre/kWhSEK 3,954 for 3,000 kWh
Summer (Jun–Aug), average since 202378.8 öre/kWhSEK 788 for 800 kWh

For an electrically heated house two things combine in winter: a higher price per kWh and perhaps four times the consumption. Energimarknadsbyrån notes that such houses often use 100 to 150 kWh a day or more in winter. That is why SE4 price levels hit house owners harder than flats, and why the choice between fixed and variable matters most here.

The year 2022 holds the peak of the whole series. The first electricity support covered consumption from October 2021 to September 2022 and applied only to the southern half of the country. In winter 2026 SE4 again received the highest support per kWh, 29 öre; see electricity support for the rules.

Grid fees in the south

E.ON Energidistribution’s Syd och Mellersta area charges a 20 A house SEK 9,404 a year in fixed fees and 30.7 öre/kWh with VAT. Lund is on another grid, Kraftringen, and Helsingborg on Öresundskraft: compare Malmö, Lund and Helsingborg.

Frequently asked questions

Why is electricity most expensive in SE4?

Svenska kraftnät explains that the zones exist so power can be moved from north to south without disturbances, with borders where the grid has bottlenecks. When the lines southwards are fully used, cheaper northern power cannot pull southern prices down. Within one zone the price is always the same.

How much support did SE4 households get for winter 2026?

29 öre per kWh for January and February 2026 consumption, the highest of the zones, up to 10,000 kWh per home. The government’s own example: a house using 6,400 kWh received about 1,850 kronor, paid by Försäkringskassan from June without any application.

Which month was electricity dearest in SE4?

In the Statistics Sweden series for a heated house on a variable contract, August 2022 was dearest at 327.0 öre/kWh before VAT, followed by December 2022 and September 2022. The cheapest month was September 2024 at 43.3 öre/kWh, which shows how far southern prices swing.
