Electricity price in SE3: what contracts cost in Stockholm and Gothenburg
SE3 is the zone where most people in Sweden live, from Värmland to Östergötland and up to Gävle.
Checked by Radif Partners · Editorial policy · Method and sources
In SE3 an electrically heated house on a variable contract paid 81.0 öre/kWh before VAT for its energy in August 2026, according to Statistics Sweden, against 103.9 öre/kWh for a newly signed one-year fixed price and 98.0 öre/kWh for a household that never chose and stayed on the retailer’s default contract (anvisat avtal). The contract matters before tax and grid are even added. The zone covers, on Svenska kraftnät’s map, grid areas including Stockholm, Gothenburg, Uppsala, Linköping, Gävle and Karlstad. With Vattenfall Eldistribution’s grid for a 20 A house, energy tax of 36.0 öre/kWh and VAT, the variable all-in price comes to 190.8 öre/kWh. The calculator starts from those figures; swap in your own spot price and grid to see the month’s cost with fixed fees too.

Assumptions
Energy tax 36 öre/kWh excl. VAT (2026), 25% VAT on everything. The grid price is Ei’s figure for Vattenfall Eldistribution AB, Lokalnät Syd on 1 January 2026, standard case V20; any power (kW) charge is not included. The retailer’s monthly fee is not included. Method and sources
Four contract types in SE3, latest month
| Home | Variable | Fixed 1 yr | Fixed 3 yrs | Default |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flat | 98.7 öre/kWh | 122.2 öre/kWh | 110.6 öre/kWh | 116.3 öre/kWh |
| House without electric heating | 86.9 öre/kWh | 110.1 öre/kWh | 98.2 öre/kWh | 104.1 öre/kWh |
| House with electric heating | 81.0 öre/kWh | 103.9 öre/kWh | 91.7 öre/kWh | 98.0 öre/kWh |
In SCB’s figures a flat pays more per kWh than a house on the same contract type, and households that never chose a contract pay more than those on a variable price. The fixed price is the average of contracts signed that month, not the price of one you already hold.
Yearly averages for the variable price since 2022
| Year | Heated house, before VAT | Incl. VAT |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 155.8 öre/kWh | 194.7 öre/kWh |
| 2023 | 76.2 öre/kWh | 95.3 öre/kWh |
| 2024 | 56.0 öre/kWh | 70.0 öre/kWh |
| 2025 | 66.8 öre/kWh | 83.4 öre/kWh |
The table covers retail energy only. Add grid and energy tax to get what you pay; the tax was 43.9 öre/kWh in 2025 and is 36.0 öre/kWh this year. Month by month, the series is on electricity prices by month, and fixed or variable price works it out for your consumption.
The grid decides the rest
SE3 holds most of the country’s grid areas: Svenska kraftnät’s register lists more in SE3 than in the other three zones combined. Vattenfall Eldistribution’s 20 A house customers pay, in Energy Markets Inspectorate data, SEK 8,129 a year in fixed fees and 44.5 öre/kWh with VAT. In Stockholm and Gothenburg the picture differs, and the grid-fee comparison shows every area.
